Scary Disney Movies

Why do they make some Disney movies so scary? Annie can't even watch 'Snow White' without freaking out at the scene where the Queen turns herself into the old hag. It is truly frightening. And how scary is the part at the end when she plummets to her death!? Which also happens in 'Tarzan' and 'Beauty and the Beast'. In our house, they just 'fall down'.

But none is more frightening than Sleeping Beauty. Maleficent is truly so scary. She says she is "the mistress of all evil". And she invokes all the powers of hell to stop Prince Phillip. Holy Crap! Then she turns into a dragon. Wow! I am surprised little girls love it as much as they do. So Annie had a nightmare the other day. And randomly during the day, she looks around and says, "There's no mean witch." We've had to teach her that Annie's house is safe and Mommy will get her. We are trying to teach her the concept of 'pretending'.

So Jed, being the caring Dad he is, decided to edit the movie. He wanted her to be able to watch it, because she loves it. She sings and dances all the time. But he didn't want her to be scared. So he cut the movie down to like 30 minutes. It only shows the fairies and Sleeping Beauty in the middle and then Prince Phillip giving Aurora the 'kissies'. What a good Dad!

Maybe someday we will be able to take the full movie out of quarantine, but for now we will just shield her from that. Annie is too timid for that stuff. She saw one of those blow up cats in the Halloween section the other day. It turned its head, like it was looking at her, and she let out the loudest blood-curdling scream you have ever heard. She was freaking out, crying and saying, "It's just pretend, it's just pretend." It was so sad. But I couldn't help but laughing. I had to cover her eyes and move to the next aisle. What a sweet girl!
